The old DATSMO vanette resurfaced in San Bernardino…and apparently needs a new head gasket..
I miss that van!
Yes…we were suppose to start updating again at the end of August but things started changing so we had to do some restructuring.
As excited as we were, the DATSMO Vanette was sold at the end of December. It was fun while it lasted. It was definitely a rare beast and we had big plans for it, but just didn’t have time to do the things we wanted to do to it. We hope the new owner has as much fun with it as we did! It truly is a great beast!
Because of lack of updates, pictures never were posted here…the DATSMO Vanette made an awesome showing at JCCS 2012 with a らーめん屋台 (ramen vendor stand) theme.
The DATSMO Vanette’s last and final showing was on December 1, 2012 at the OC Datsun Meet. Our JCCS board member friend contacted us in a last minute effort to rally a bunch of Datsuns together for a photoshoot in OC for an up and coming Japanese magazine which focuses on Classic Japanese Cars called 旧車ロマン or Kyuusha Roman. Needless to say, we were able to get a good showing for our counterparts in Japan! The VERY first issue features shots of DATSMO and friends as well as other familiar faces in the DATSUN community!
Here’s a sneak peek!
(you can see DATSMO Z and DATSMO Vanette in the upper right corner!)
Now for the biggest news update…
With the DATSMO Vanette gone…the Z is not lonely! A new partner has joined the DATSMO stable!
Please give a warm welcome to the DATSMO Roadster!
It’s a 1968 Datsun SPL311
1600 with a 2000 5speed manual transmission
Mostly stock so far…only modification on it at the moment is LED gauges…
As the weather warms up, we will defintely be spending more time on it, so stay tuned!

Generation 1 Transformers Ironhide was based off a Nissan Vanette. So what better way to show off how awesome the 80’s were than with a Transformer?
now only if the Vanette could transform! hahaha
